Adair Homes understands there’s a wide gulf between dreaming about your perfect home—and building it from the ground-up. While flipping through design magazines sounds (to many) like pure delight, choosing a floorplan can feel futile. Suddenly, the choices are overwhelming. Construction affordability, design style, and space considerations are all part of choosing the right floorplan. Saying that this step of the process is hard is an understatement.
CHOOSING A PLAN
We're Here to Help
Adair Homes gets it. We’ve helped thousands of homeowners through the build on-your-lot process, and we know what it takes to build a custom home that fits your lifestyle. It’s one of the many reasons we have a dedicated staff of Home Ownership Counselors who know the Adair process backwards and forwards, and are well-versed in how to adapt plans to fit specific livability requirements.
Many times our customers are unsure how to choose from the large variety of Adair Home’s floor plans. That’s where Johanna Siebert, Home Ownership Counselor, comes in. With a working knowledge of the Adair home plans catalog, Johanna is uniquely qualified to help prospective Adair customers identify the perfect floorplan for their lifestyle.
The Alexander
When Josh and Emily Horn, of Medford, Oregon, came into the office, they knew they wanted a four bedroom, modern farmhouse. They also had a very specific budget in mind for the project. After speaking with them only a short time, Johanna knew exactly where to start.
“When a customer describes a four bedroom home of approximately 2000 square feet, that accommodates views from the side, front and rear, I always reach for the Alexander plan. I can almost always come up with a few structural changes to convert the Alexander into an amazing farmhouse,” says Johanna.
“It was the most economical way to get everything Emily wanted, including the finishes—including the fireplace tile, kitchen finishes, and flooring. Emily was really fun to work with and her home turned out beautifully.”
After choosing a plan, the next step is to send any desired structural changes to the Drafting Department.
Perfecting the Plan
Ellie-Anne Stone, CAD Draftsperson took note of the Horn’s desired changes and went to work on the Alexander floorplan.
“The first version of the Horns' home moved the garage to the opposite side of the house where they did a side load garage and added some square footage for a fourth bedroom,” said Ellie-Anne. “I modified the floor plan slightly from the original red line in order to make getting large furniture in and out of the new second bedroom easier. They have much more direct access into the room now.”
By working directly with Emily, Ellie-Anne was able to craft Emily's custom farmhouse vision. “I worked very closely with Johanna on this project as she was trying to achieve a similar look to a custom house that we had drawn for her. There were a number of revisions, but it came out really well when all was said and done.”
From Paper to Property
After the blueprints are created and approved, it’s time to build the dream. The Horns’ homesite was a beautiful rural five acre parcel with outstanding views of the rolling foothills.
“The homesite is nestled toward the top of the sloping property where it has an amazing view of the Rogue Valley from Southwest to Northwest,” said Noah Gephart, Construction Superintendent for Southern Oregon. Placing the home properly on the land is Noah’s job—and he knows what he is doing.
“A full lite atrium door, and 4-3060 single hung windows were incorporated into the design to really capture the picturesque valley. The end loading garage also worked with the lay of the land in order to keep the garage slab as high as possible and leave as much space as possible at the entry. We built a shed porch roof over the entry tying things together to the farmhouse elevation. All in all, the home appears to belong in its setting —and when that happens, we know we’ve done our job well.”
Modified for Life
When Josh and Emily Horn moved into their newly constructed custom built farmhouse in rural Medford, it was the realization of a long-awaited, long-prepared for dream. The new home was designed and built specifically for them—from the custom mill work to the framed views out every window.
