Clark County, Idaho is the least populated county in the state. At the last census only 37 people lived in the rural town of Spencer, the “Opal Capital of America”, and a little over 500 people lived in the larger town of Dubois. Clark County remains, in a large part, as it always has been—wild land, punctuated by stage coach stops and occasional mining towns. To the east, Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Tetons, to the west, Sun Valley and the Sawtooth Mountains. Clark County’s horizons stretch on unobstructed in every direction, pink sunsets glowing behind white-tipped peaks. Land here is affordable, crime is low, and those that choose to live here do so because they love the privacy and quietude these wide open spaces offer.
