As the cultural seat of Eastern Oregon, Umatilla County has a lot to offer. The communities in Umatilla County are diverse, fun, and family-friendly. Established in 1862, Umatilla County was originally known as a farming district. Even today, over 200 different crops are grown in this region. This area also offers a low cost of living, affordable land, and low power costs—making it a very attractive place to build. Hermiston is the largest city in Eastern Oregon, known primarily for watermelons—and now—data centers. It also offers ten developed parks for recreation, including a 16-acre waterfront park with walking and bike paths next to the Umatilla River. While Hermiston is the largest city in Umatilla County, Pendleton is the best known, thanks to the eponymous Pendleton Woolen Mills, Pendleton Round-Up, and popular Pendleton Whiskey Music Festival. Just down the road in Milton-Freewater, you’ll find another community that loves to celebrate—from the Pea Festival of the 1960’s, Corn Roasting in the 80’s, to the Muddy Frogwater celebrations of the early 2000s. These days you’ll find a more refined Weekend at the Blues music festival taking center stage—but who knows what will come next? Umatilla County will always find a reason to celebrate.
