This county boasts 250 miles of saltwater shoreline and caters to boaters, sailors, and birdwatchers with its secluded harbors and numerous historic lighthouses at the waters’ edge. Public transportation includes walking ferries—getting you quickly from one part of the peninsula to another. Port Orchard or Bremerton both have routes to Bainbridge Island—which, by the way—is where pickleball was invented. If you’re looking for a quiet, community-minded homebase close to a major city, Kitsap County is an ideal place to call home.
